Using Xubuntu Lucid Lynx, updated as of 2010-03-12, this bug appears to
have been fixed. I can now use both Alt and Super to set my keyboard
shortcuts. It would be good to have this confirmed as fixed by another
user.

As of 2010-03-10, after installing the nvidia-current driver, I checked
the menus. System - Administration does contain the GUI tool
immediately after installing drivers. Unfortunately, after following the
hardware drivers tool instructions to restart, the tool disappears from

Attempting to do anything in Ubuntu/Xubuntu to a password with out using
sudo results in permission denied. Since the root account is locked,
we can not make a change without sudo. However, I did type that line
wrong. Here is the actual lines from terminal:

And, it works! Changing the password in terminal allows immediate use of
the new password.

I am raising this to high importance. I am running Xubuntu, which does
not use pulse audio. I am seeing the same issues reported. Having the
gnome-volume-control-applet using 40% of the cpu and attempting to spawn
unknown other processes severely impacts the ability to work on the

, it is now a softer but still audible beep. This bug is to turn that
beep off completely. A softer beep does not do that, therefore this is
not really fixed for those annoyed by the beep.
