This bug is still there in the latest karmic (gvfs 1.3.3), but I found a workaround. If you give an explicit user in the URL (like sftp://u...@server) the password is saved (at least for me). I've also added this to the bug report at the Gnome bugzilla. -- ssh passwords are not stored in
