Because this issue isn't reproducible on either maverick or unstable,
and because the most obvious culprit is the resize-grip patch which is
possibly messing with this particular window area?

This is related to bug 704105, Resize grip always appears in bottom
right of GTK+2.0 windows , which is a bug to remove the resize grips
from those windows that did not need them.
