hey, I think I found out why there's no flicker in no XV mode. XV
probably stands for external video, therefore it is faster to use
XV(graphics card), but XV proves problematic because of the flickering.
So, I'd say for good performance, go XV; for good quality but bad
framerate, go no XV.

because it takes a lot of scrolling and hunting around at the moment.

Yes, I think it does. The problem is that Gnome 2.26 removed gnome-
sound-preferences, but didn't move the 'Sound Effects' tab across to
g-v-c, so they were missing. I opened this bug because of that. Then
Ubuntu brought Intrepid's gnome-sound-preferences back into Jaunty, so

I think there is indeed a bug, or a lack of a choice on the FTP protocol
being used. I have access to a server allowing ftp connections, but not
sftp ones. Then, from the command line I can, as reported here, access
the server without any issues. Nautilius (I think the problem is in
gvfs) is not

Update: The above mentioned bug does only reproduce in the german
localisation of Ubuntu and seems to refer to keyring access of
Evolution. I checked the english and french localisation which gave path
and appname correctly. Sorry, I'm new to bug reporting.

Sorry, i do not use gnome anymore, i switched to a simple window-manager
with simple gtk+ apps that actually work, since my new pc is an eee
series. I may try it again, but later.
