After an update for udev earlier today the problem seems to have gone. Sound works again and the error isn't raised by Apport. Hal, however, still refuses to run, 'sudo /etc/init.d/hal status' tells me so. Maybe it was indeed related to udev, I'll keep my eyes open for returning symptoms. --
