When I open nautilus the first time after start-up by click on a nexus
of a partition (Type of it: NTFS) in the starter there are sometimes
loaded the wrong icons (for the search button, folders etc.) and not the
ones that are showed normally (the standard ones of Ubuntu).
We got a new kernel, nothing else that would possibly explain this.
Anyway, thanks for reporting back. If you encounter it again, please
shout here and I'll have a closer look.

in fact the system is non obvious, the preferences let you set the
default, then the menu let you customize the view for a specific
directory (same as you would do for sorting or view mode), so you could
disable hidden file by default but only show their in your hacking
directory or something.
