this is most likely due to many packages depending on glib-dev and glib-dev
recommends python
if you don't disable installing recommends the foreign python will attempt to
replace the native one which will break your system

I found this bug upstream in gnome's bugzilla
(https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=676570), and here is a
solution.
The crash is connected to the file ~/.config/gedit/latex/tools.xml. If
you remove this file, Latex plugin loads correctly and doesn't crash
when you enter preferences.
This is likely what happens:
1- Something grabs mouse: ie: virtual machine window, or GTK menu in an
application or an indicator
2- Screensaver attempts to start, but cannot get exclusive lock on mouse
3- DPMS turns monitor black
4- User moves mouse, which turns the screen back on
5- Mouse
I have this problem too. After deleting the lines added to the ubuntu-
wallpapers.xml, nothing changed. Even the added wallpaper remains there!

After backup the file, I edited the file ubuntu-wallpapers.xml and
deleted some wallpapers listed randomly. Now, every image deleted from
the list, is single in Appearance app. The others are still double!

FWIW, on my system, intel_backlight/brightness is fixed at 4319, but
acpi_video0/brightness is also fixed at 14. I could change the value of
acpi_video1/brightness from 0 to 15 by altering the brightness either
with the keys on my USB keyboard, or by using $ xbacklight -set n,
Same problem with openconnect. A workaround is to downgrade libnm-glib-vpn1:

I have changed employers, and no longer have access to the IMAP server
containing messages that definitely caused the crash.
I can confirm that on my currently accessible mail servers, I don't get
a crash when browsing my mail. However, this isn't proof that the bug is
fixed, but
