Ok, I run empathy-debugger and then run empathy. Played a bit with Online
Accounts applet and finally closed Empathy.

I used to have this issue but have not experienced it for years.
Currently running a clean install of 12.10 with the recommended nvidia
driver (304.51) with no problems.

having the logs would still be useful if you feel like investigating a
bit more the issue
I already sent logs as requested after the last crash.
I tested a number of other image viewers and was not able to trigger a
crash with them.
But crash happened consistently with eog as described.
