I also have this problem, removing and re-adding my google account

After doing a fresh install for Ubuntu 13.04 x64 on my laptop it fails about
80% of the times to shutdown/restart.
I closed the bootsplash to see the logs written on the screen and it Fails to
kill all remaining processes then says switching to single user mode and
keeps

This issue still occurs to me with
Pidgin 2.10.7 (libpurple 2.10.7)
Installed from pidgin ppa on Ubuntu 13.04.
It may startup and run for a while then hang. If left for any extended
period of time when I return it is hung.

[Aspire 5830TG, Conexant CX20588, Speaker, Internal] No sound at all
I still get this effect on Ubuntu 13.04 Raring 64 Bit.
I can easily get this bug by connecting to a windows share in our network and
play a large (125MB) mpeg video with
any player e. g. vlc.
If it does not happen after 5-10 starts, just open the videos with a few
players open parallel. Then
