don't think anyone has a patched xserver in a PPA. I can try uploading
it today to my PPA.

The m17n workaround (#52) has never stopped working. Sometimes, after some
updates the switch became a little slow, however it keeps working flawlessly.
Even the icon workaround (#56) has no problems

I've released upstream modesetting 0.8.1 which contains the fix for the
duplicate VGA-0 output. I've uploaded a package to debian, which should
be synced to ubuntu today or tomorrow.

My observation: I tried to set the shortcut. Didn't work - didn't appear
in the dialog. However, after that, I am able to switch the layout, but
the icon at the top doesn't reflect that. It stays although typing is
affected. Changing the layout manually works too, and the icon reflects
it properly
