computers which requested help and thank you, I managed to install
Lubuntu and have MIXER solved using ALSA sound. We tested several
variants of Linux and I stopped in Lubuntu I like very much. LINUX

Mh, it looks like it crashes on the gdk XError handler... To make sure
this is the case, can you also install the gtk-3 symbols and run again
gdb?

I am using ubuntu 14.04 with installed driver nvidia 340.24 for Quadro
1000M graphic card. Unfortunately, I have the same problem. I have
another pc which is the same OS 14.04 and driver 331.79 for Quadro
FX880M but it does not have the same problem.

windows 8.1 with the drivers downloaded from Asus. I'm 100% sure I've
physically installed and connected the card correctly.

I had exactly the same problem on an HP Elite Book 840. The solution
from above did not work for me though. I have found a somewhat cleaner
solution though:
- Check the cards of your snd_hda_intel driver
cat /proc/asound/cards
- Deactivate the HDMI cards that are shown above, e.g.,

This worked for me (Intel card):
sudo gedit /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-intel.conf
Add:
