well, based on the reply from Timo Aaltonen it seems like there's canonical

so, i purged python3-apport and reinstalled only 2 packages:

Hi Daniel, the driver that I have with ubuntu's support (the one that is
downloaded automatically) is giving me some problems. No freezes yet
(it's been around 6 hours).
The first problem is that the display does not seem to be claimed.

When I tried Step 1, I got an error messaged saying that Ubuntu 20.04
has experienced and error and asking if I'd like to report it to the

click the icon that appears in the bottom right corner of the screen.

ah, it's the other way around with dependencies. So, apparently xorg
should not depend on problem reporting. I think the only reason they put
this dependency there is because otherwise they would have to add it to
every -desktop task.
And no, I want to purge all packages related to apport, not
I had to reinstall Ubuntu 20.04 with kernel 5.4.0-56 because on 20.10
with kernel 5.8.0-28 the wifi was very unstable.

Unable to move all selected files on desktop
I think I've solved it. I removed gdm3 and lightdm
apt purge gdm3
apt purge lightdm
then reinstalled gdm3 and ubuntu desktop.
apt install gdm3 ubuntu-desktop
It now seems to be working as expected.
It appears to me screen blanking may not work with lightdm, but I'm not sure
perhaps it was
Till, it allows quite a few things (from man capabilities):
CAP_SYS_NICE
* Raise process nice value (nice(2), setpriority(2)) and change the
nice value for arbitrary processes;
* set real-time scheduling policies for calling process, and set
scheduling
I think it'd be worth testing whether libreoffice-calc can be built with
coinmp support (build dependencies don't have to be in main) and still
function without the dependency installed (i.e. runtime detection).

No I didn't remove of edit anything.
When I run an upgrade I get an error that that file is missing. When I do
dpkg --configure -a I get the same message.
In order to solve a problem with the screen not blanking I removed gdm3 and
lightdm then reinstalled gdm3, that's when the error showed
