Can also be noted that a gnome-flashback compiz session is likewise affected
though the symptoms are slightly different
(- nothing happens for a while, then booted back to greeter.
It also returns to expected with a downgraded xserver-xorg-video-intel package

If I boot to recovery resume then do get an ubuntu session but using lvmpipe.
ie.
