the problem this would help solve would be for example to easily assign a full
screen application, be it a webapp in a browser or a presentation, to a
seperate display output channel, all this being done by an ordinary user with
no expert knowledge on a desktop window management level.

I think that the real problem is with GTK3.
The DECISION not to be flash-compatible is certainly more of a political
nature, and i can't say i'm totally opposed to it.
still, it should be noted, incompatibility with flash is a major selling
point
same here in 12.04:
after boot, i press play once, no launches but doesn't play.
then, after quitting rhythmbox via FileQuit, i can launch start playing
automatically with a single click onto the play button in indicator sound.

The quit option from the the quicklists doesn't terminate rhythmbox.
when rhythmbox is open, playing music, selecting Quit from the File menu
terminates the process and hereby stops the playback, too.
Quit should always mean quit = terminate the process and remove it from
