[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1772430]

2024-04-14 Thread Qa-admin-q
Dear bugzilla,

To make sure we're focusing on the bugs that affect our users today,
LibreOffice QA is asking bug reporters and confirmers to retest open,
confirmed bugs which have not been touched for over a year.

There have been thousands of bug fixes and commits since anyone checked
on this bug report. During that time, it's possible that the bug has
been fixed, or the details of the problem have changed. We'd really
appreciate your help in getting confirmation that the bug is still
present.

If you have time, please do the following:

Test to see if the bug is still present with the latest version of
LibreOffice from https://www.libreoffice.org/download/

If the bug is present, please leave a comment that includes the information
from Help - About LibreOffice.

If the bug is NOT present, please set the bug's Status field to
RESOLVED-WORKSFORME and leave a comment that includes the information from Help
- About LibreOffice.

Please DO NOT

Update the version field
Reply via email (please reply directly on the bug tracker)
Set the bug's Status field to RESOLVED - FIXED (this status has a particular
meaning that is not
appropriate in this case)

If you want to do more to help you can test to see if your issue is a
REGRESSION. To do so:
1. Download and install oldest version of LibreOffice (usually 3.3 unless your
bug pertains to a feature added after 3.3) from
https://downloadarchive.documentfoundation.org/libreoffice/old/

2. Test your bug
3. Leave a comment with your results.
4a. If the bug was present with 3.3 - set version to 'inherited from OOo';
4b. If the bug was not present in 3.3 - add 'regression' to keyword

Feel free to come ask questions or to say hello in our QA chat:
https://web.libera.chat/?settings=#libreoffice-qa

Thank you for helping us make LibreOffice even better for everyone!

Warm Regards,
QA Team

Title:
[upstream] Proportional line spacing under 100 % makes first line too
  low in LibreOffice Writer

Status in LibreOffice:
  Confirmed
Status in libreoffice package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
Using proportional line spacing with less than 100 % makes the first
line of each paragraph and each page considerably lower than all the
  other lines.

This problem is an issue particularly with fonts designed for Arabic,
where the default line spacing is very big so as to allow for space
for optional vowel marks below and above the line. If these marks are
not used, the space between the lines is often too big. If I change
line spacing to proportional 80 %, most of the lines look fine but the
first line of each paragraph and of each page (even without a
paragraph break) gets crammed into the second line. As a user, I would
rather expect the first line to have the same visual height as all the
other lines. See the attached document and screenshots using Noto
Naskh Arabic and 80 % line spacing.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2060575] Re: gnome-keyring fails to automatically unlock login keyring after recent updates in noble

2024-04-14 Thread Nicolás Abel Carbone
I am having the same problem after upgrading from 23.10 on a Thinkpad
T14 AMD Gen 2. Another problem I am having is that WiFi is not
automatically connected after log-in. I suppose it is related to this
bug, is anyone else having this issue?

After installing recent updates in 24.04, upon logging in the gnome-

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2059847] Re: Input lag or freezes on Nvidia desktops with X11 after logging "MetaSyncRing: Sync object is not ready -- were events handled properly?"

2024-04-14 Thread Daniel van Vugt
There are no more "latest patches". The PPA is already the latest as it
contains the same fix as 42.9-0ubuntu8 and 45.2-0ubuntu5 will.

Bug description:
  [ Impact ]

Input or the entire screen may freeze at times on systems using the
  Nvidia Xorg driver with GNOME.

  [ Test Plan ]

  0. Set up a desktop with Nvidia driver 545 or 550.
  1. Log into Ubuntu, ensuring it's a Xorg session.
  2. Open a Terminal, resize it vigorously, and type several lines of text.
  3. Run: journalctl -b0 | grep MetaSyncRing
  4. Verify the above command does NOT show "MetaSyncRing" messages such as:

Window manager warning: MetaSyncRing: Sync object is not ready -- were events
handled properly?
Window manager warning: MetaSyncRing: Sync object is not ready -- were events
handled properly?
Window manager warning: MetaSyncRing: Sync object is not ready -- were events
handled properly?
Window manager warning: MetaSyncRing: Too many reboots -- disabling

[ Where problems could occur ]

Anywhere in Nvidia (proprietary driver) Xorg sessions since the code
being modified is only used with that driver.

  [ Original Description ]

There is a noticeable delay in input while using the native terminal.
I belive it was caused by a recent software update, as this issue is
  relatively new.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2060692] Re: cupsd 2.4.7-1.2ubuntu5 on noble crashes due to recently backported commits from 2.4.x git

2024-04-14 Thread Till Kamppeter
My upload got approved now:

https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/cups/2.4.7-1.2ubuntu7

This means that the package is in noble-proposed now. The autopkgtests
of the package itself and its dependencies get run on all the 6
supported architectures. When they all pass, the package gets into
noble-release, the actual release of Noble.

Title:
cupsd 2.4.7-1.2ubuntu5 on noble crashes due to recently backported
  commits from 2.4.x git

Status in cups package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Committed

Bug description:
While checking out the latest versions of cups (2.4.7-1.2ubuntu4 and
2.4.7-1.2ubuntu5),
I noticed that cupsd crashes consistently after closing my Firefox tab /
window.
The title of the crash (from the bug-report window) is "cupsd crashed with
SIGSEGV in ???()"

I'm running the noble-desktop-amd64.iso from 2024-03-25 after applying
some updates from the noble and noble-proposed pockets.

  Reproduction steps:
  1. Open Firefox and manage CUPS on http://localhost:631
  2. Go to Administration -> Printers -> Add Printer and choose your printer
  3. Add your printer (I used the ipps:// protocol to manage the printer)
  4. After clicking the "Add printer" button, immediately close your Firefox tab
  5. cupsd will crash and Ubuntu will display a bug-report popup

  Versions:
  Firefox - 124.0.1-1 r4033
  CUPS - 2.4.7-1.2ubuntu5

  Printer:
  Lexmark MS415dn (supported)

I am unable to reproduce this bug on versions prior to
  2.4.7-1.2ubuntu4 (Tried with 2.4.7-1.2ubuntu1 and 2.4.7-1.2ubuntu2).

Versions 2.4.7-1.2ubuntu4 and 2.4.7-1.2ubuntu5 only backported commits from
the 2.4.x upstream git branch, so I also opened an issue on GitHub:
  https://github.com/OpenPrinting/cups/issues/934

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2061327] [NEW] 24.04 beta hangs at desktop

2024-04-14 Thread Rob Peters
Public bug reported:

I have a Thinkpad T510 dual boot windows and Ubuntu Budgie 22.04

Booting the 24.04 Ubuntu Budgie livecd, I notice that instead of the nice
desktop graphics for Budgie I get a text line saying Ubuntu Budgie 24.04. Then
when the desktop finally loads the liveCD locks up tight. Only a hard reset
works.
I have tried the Ubuntu 24.04 beta with same results.
If I take the boot option "safe graphics" the live cd session loads correctly
and does not hang.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2061257] Re: After 24.04 upgrade, many graphical app failures under Wayland; no issues with Xorg

2024-04-14 Thread Martin D. Weinberg
I also tried removing the Mesa Vulkan driver and set `export
LIBVA_DRIVER_NAME=i965`. That gets rid of the warning message but I
still get a hang with Vivaldi and nextcloud-desktop still does not work.

Title:
After 24.04 upgrade, many graphical app failures under Wayland; no
  issues with Xorg

Status in wayland package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
Many applications seem to fail under a Wayland session that work correctly
with an Xorg session. E.g.
  - The nextcloud client app fails to contact the server and functions in the
app will not launch with Wayland while they work perfectly in Xorg
  - The Vivaldi browser exits with: MESA-INTEL: warning: Haswell Vulkan support
is incomplete
libva error: /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/dri/iHD_drv_video.so init failed. It
works correctly under Xorg.
  - The Slack app works correct in Xorg not in Wayland.
  - The Firefox snap works fine in both.

I assume that these are related? Esp. that latter suggests to me that
  there is some library problem?

Thanks. Sounds similar. My nautilus and gnome-control center do work
strangely enough. But the more clues the better.

[FFe] Please add German (Noted) layout

Status in xkeyboard-config package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
Please add the newest layout of the German Neo keyboard layout family.
Noted is a layout designed to make typing as comfortable and efficient
as possible in both German and English. It was developed with the help
of a layout optimizer, which is based on the metrics and concepts of
ArneBab's optimizer and adapts and extends them.

I switched from Neo 2 via Mine to Noted and I like to see this variant
to be available out of the box in Ubuntu.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2061257] Re: After 24.04 upgrade, many graphical app failures under Wayland; no issues with Xorg

2024-04-14 Thread MichaelB
Same here.. I upgraded from 22.04 (upgrade failed but i managed to
install missing packages with dpkg --configure -a, apt install -f, apt
upgrade.. but it's not our issue in this thread)

When we click on nautilus icon, nothing happen (on wayland)

michael@michael-ubuntu:~$ nautilus
** Message: 22:29:35.550: Connecting to org.freedesktop.Tracker3.Miner.Files
libEGL warning: egl: failed to create dri2 screen
MESA-INTEL: warning: Haswell Vulkan support is incomplete
Erreur de segmentation

If i close the session and start with xorg it's fine, nautilus opened.

michael@michael-ubuntu:~$ nautilus
** Message: 22:29:35.550: Connecting to org.freedesktop.Tracker3.Miner.Files

This happen with some other applications as gnome-control-center by
example.

Many applications seem to fail under a Wayland session that work correctly with

works correctly under Xorg.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2060692] Re: cupsd 2.4.7-1.2ubuntu5 on noble crashes due to recently backported commits from 2.4.x git

2024-04-14 Thread Till Kamppeter
I have uploaded it, but starting from beta freeze until the final
release all uploads have to be approved by the release team. As I have
done the upload on Friday late at night (CEST) there was probably nobody
of the release team around to pass this upload through. Probably this
will happen only on Monday.

  commits from 2.4.x git

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2061317] [NEW] view changelog hyperlink points to release notes

2024-04-14 Thread Brian Murray
Public bug reported:

The first screen in gnome-initial-setup has a hyperlink which says "View
changelog" at first I thought this was the changelog for gnome-initial-
setup and was surprised to be taken to the release notes for Noble. I
think the link should be renamed release notes.

Title:
Alt +esc doesn't change focus when an app is set "Always on Top"

Status in gnome-shell package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
After I put Gnome Clock to always on top by `Alt`+`Space`,then
whenever I did `Alt`+`Esc` , it changed the blue box from window to
window but does not brought anyone of them to focus.

For example, I opened Firefox through the shortcut, It brought it on
second top(after clock) position but didn't change the focus till I
deliberately click somewhere in the browser from mouse to bring it
  back to focus.

Is this a normal behavior of Ubuntu, and if so how can I change it so
that the shortcut would also change the focus to the window and not
only bring it on the top.

On some inspection and asking the community it was found that the bug
is reproducible in Ubuntu gnome but not in fedora, so it seems like
having some problem with this O.S. in particular.

  My "lsb_release -rd" produces following:

  Description: Ubuntu 22.04.4 LTS
  Release: 22.04

Status in network-manager package in Ubuntu:

I was an unpatient idiot, and I upgraded from 22.04 to 24.04. Near to
the end of the upgrade, I got an „Oh, no! Something has gone wrong and
the system cannot recover. Call the system administrator” message
after a red FAILED in the terminal. The system administrator is
myself, because my computer is a personal one. Hard reset, same error,
Ctrl+Alt+F3, sudo apt reinstall gdm3. Obviously. I needed to finish
the update with dpkg. While dpkg was upgrading, it printed an error
  message for every WiFi connection:

„[Failed] Failed to migrate [I do not remember, something with
  /etc/netplan]”

It took at least one and a half our to find the solution on Ask
Ubuntu. The problem was: /etc/resolv.conf became a broken link, along
with systemd-resolve.service. I needed to remove both of them and
write a new resolv.conf to fix the error.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2061257] Re: After 24.04 upgrade, many graphical app failures under Wayland; no issues with Xorg

2024-04-14 Thread Martin D. Weinberg
I tried the same upgrade and test on an old Sandy Bridge laptop.
Everything works as expected there. So a Haswell issue perhaps?

Title:
After 24.04 upgrade, many graphical app failures under Wayland; no
  issues with Xorg

Status in xorg package in Ubuntu:
  New

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2061298] [NEW] Screen corruption in Firefox and Thunderbird when using Wayland

2024-04-14 Thread Alistair Cunningham
Public bug reported:

After upgrading from Ubuntu 23.10 to 24.04, Firefox and Thunderbird both
suffer from screen corruption when running with Wayland and virtual
desktops. The main windows are fine, but their tab bars show old data
from other apps in other virtual desktops.

Attached are screenshots of this. The screenshots don't really show the
corruption, but they do show the areas that are corrupted as a grey
"chessboard" pattern.

Apologies if this is filed against the wrong package. If so, please re-
assign it.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2061257] Re: After 24.04 upgrade, many graphical app failures under Wayland; no issues with Xorg

2024-04-14 Thread Martin D. Weinberg
I tried the same test on an old Sandy Bridge laptop. Everything works
as expected there. So a Haswell issue?

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2060575] Re: gnome-keyring fails to automatically unlock login keyring after recent updates in noble

2024-04-14 Thread jon richter
I can confirm the behaviour after a recent upgrade from mantic to noble
and has also been reported in https://discourse.ubuntu.com/t/noble-dev-
branch-why-does-the-keyring-stay-locked-upon-login-also-why-did-apt-
install-work-but-apt-upgrade-fail/43979

Another oddity is, that I seem to have to type the password twice into
the second, non-overlay password prompt, which has me type my password
four times for a complete login.

This may also be connected to recent changes about how the ssh-agent is
initialised, which may or may not involve problems with the Keyring or
the new GCR. (Does anybody know what the abbreviation means? Its readme
stays silent about it.)

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2059335] Re: FFe: Sync file-roller 44.1-1 (main) from Debian unstable (main)

Title:
FFe: Sync file-roller 44.1-1 (main) from Debian unstable (main)

Status in file-roller package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
  Freeze Exception Request

I request to sync file-roller 44 from Debian. The largest change is that
file-roller was ported from GTK3 to GTK4. However, this is also the strongest
argument to doing the update: it will be significantly easier to backport
bugfixes if Ubuntu 24.04 LTS is using the GTK4 version rather than by trying to
port those fixes to GTK3.

Although switching apps to GTK4 was problematic for Ubuntu 22.04 LTS,
a significant number of apps these days are GTK4 and at least all the
Ubuntu desktop flavors that ship file-roller do have appropriate basic
  themeing for GTK4 apps.

  Potential Problems
  --
The new release drops the AppMenu option. In other words, showing a
traditional File/Edit/View menu instead of a hamburger ☰ menu.

Out of the desktop flavors that ship file-roller, it looks like this
feature was only used in Ubuntu Unity. Notably Ubuntu Unity ships many
MATE apps because of Unity's unique "global menu" feature. MATE does
offer an older GTK3 file-roller fork named engrampa. If this feature
is important to Ubuntu Unity, I recommend they switch to engrampa.

However, Ubuntu Unity ships nemo as the default file browser. nemo
recommends nemo-fileroller which Depends: file-roller. (Instead of
engrampa). There is another nautilus fork named caja which Ubuntu MATE
  ships.

  Why This Didn't Happen Sooner

file-roller 44 Beta was released March 10 but Feature Freeze was February 29
so this already missed the Feature Freeze deadline.

file-roller 44.0 was released last week

  Affected Desktop Flavors
  -
  - Ubuntu Desktop (although only in the "full" install option, but minimal is
the default for new installs now)
  - Ubuntu Cinnamon
  - Ubuntu Unity

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2061288] [NEW] Multiple conflicting SSH agents and SSH_AUTH_SOCK not set after upgrade to noble

2024-04-14 Thread jon richter
Public bug reported:

After upgrading mantic to noble, there are multiple SSH agents who are
independently trying to set SSH_AUTH_SOCK, none of which is successful.

1. ~/.config/autostart/gnome-keyring-ssh.desktop (identical to
/etc/xdg/autostart/gnome-keyring-ssh.desktop, if not modified)

This will start the regular GNOME Keyring SSH Agent. It will set the
Agent location to /run/user/1000/ssh, while the Socket is initialised at
/run/user/1000/.ssh

2. If that one is not running, the user unit ssh-agent.service kicks in.

It sets the Socket to live at /run/user/1000/openssh_agent

3. Parallely, there is also a GPG agent emulating SSH support gpg-agent-
ssh.socket

Socket at /run/user/1000/gnupg/S.gpg-agent.ssh

4. There is also the (new?) user unit gcr-ssh-agent.socket

It sets its Socket to live at /run/user/1000/gcr/ssh

---

The last one seems to be preferred by GNOME upstream nowadays, but also
comes with caveats, as its unit does not set the SSH_AUTH_SOCK variable.
This commit from !137 (see below) does not seem to be included in
/usr/lib/systemd/user/gcr-ssh-agent.socket

-
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gcr/-/commit/b12cc639949c4b548d84625b292a2aff1faaf195

Apparently it's solved upstream with the gcr 4.2.1 release. Installed is
4.2.0-4build1

There are discussions about how this is possibly resolved in

- https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-build-meta/-/issues/770 closed
- https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-build-meta/-/merge_requests/2623 open
- https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gcr/-/issues/55 closed
- https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gcr/-/merge_requests/137 merged
- https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gcr/-/merge_requests/138 closed
- https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gcr/-/merge_requests/139 reverts 137

Similar regressions around GCR (What does that abbreviation even mean?
It's not explained in the readme) are described in the following,
including other possible workarounds:

  Description: Ubuntu 22.04.4 LTS
  Release: 22.04

Confirm. Lenovo Legion 7 slim (R9000X) 16ARHA7. Speakers start working
since upgrading to 6.8.5 kernel.

But internal microphone doesn't. But maybe it's some local problem, I
have never checked it before.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2060692] Re: cupsd 2.4.7-1.2ubuntu5 on noble crashes due to recently backported commits from 2.4.x git

2024-04-14 Thread Andreas Karlson
Are you sure the changes were uploaded?
I'm having a hard time finding them in
https://git.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/cups

Title:
cupsd 2.4.7-1.2ubuntu5 on noble crashes due to recently backported
  commits from 2.4.x git
