FYI,
in my case (raring, 3.9.0-rc5 kernel, nouveau 1.0.7) Ubuntu is not
completely frozen, i can still log in remotely. Only X are frozen.

i have also upgraded
oh, wait !
i have been able to change from 1024x768 to 1280x1024 with no problems! :)
next step is, to boot directly into 1280x1024 :D

at the login screen, screen is at 1280x1024 but it changes to 1024x768
