The way we've handled this in the Beehive/NetUI tags is to have a
netui:attribute tag which can be nested inside of other NetUI tags to
extend the containing tag's attribute set. The attribute tag adds an
arbitrary name / value pair that is written when the tag renders.
So, something like

tags so I can't use the site/app. properly. We've always done our best
with Struts to produce valid markup according to the HTML and XHTML
standards.
For a very long time now, we have had a strict policy of not including
anything that is not part of the HTML 4.01 spec or XHTML spec. I am
still very much in favour of that policy, and am actively
disinterested in seeing non-conforming additions to Struts.
