188-141 does not merit adaptive equalization in my opinion. At 125 tones per second, one of 8 tones is turned on. Each tone sends 3 bits as a result. The data is encoded with a Golay code. This is about twice as fast as is optimal for most HF channels given this kind of transmission

Perhaps with a little FEC and the slower speed and a shorter frame, Packet might have worked better on HF. I remember reading that packet requires a rather high S/N ratio to work. The only redeeming value is that it is an ARQ mode and it can run on a sound card such as with Patrick's Multipsk

I am just in the process of commissioning a new computer, an ASUS A8V motherboard with AMD 3000+ cpu and 512mb ram System is XP Pro with SP1 This motherboard has an on board Realtek AC97 sound card. If I plug a Creative Live PCI sound card in, and boot up, the Live card is found and installed ok
