Spotting to the DX Cluster is now available at HamSpots!
Look for the [POST SPOT] link in the title bar (top right corner) of
the Cluster Spot display on any of the pages that have a Cluster

any ideas on a 'good' usb card for data use ??
I'm having great luck with the Cmedia cm108 usb soundcard.
The Asterisk (VOIP) people have even written up instructions
on how to create a PTT circuit

Hello, I am one in charge of digital modes of my club, (www.radiogruposur.com)
and we will participate next weekend in ILLW, at Jose Ignacio Lighthouse, near
Punta del Este, Uruguay.
Since conditions are not good, I will ask you recomendations of the use of
others digital modes than PSK31
I had one that looks exactly like that though it was sold under another name,
and I could not decode 300baud packet at all with it. When used to play back
recordings of very weak EME CW all I could hear was band noise.
I did try it on my Echolink node for a bit with no apparent problems. So my
What are the pros cons of each method? So far, I've read that some
methods require more hardware than others. And that one side controls
the vox versus another. What's the difference?
I don't use a desktop at home any longer. I use laptops since I move
all the time. My next computer might be a
. Many modes work well, and most are BETTER than PSK31, but the problem is
that there are not many hams using the others nodes, So your lighthouse
station may be calling CQ over and over again using a mode that no one
uses. So, I would suggest just four modes. PSK31, PSK63 if the band is in

Well, I heard about CMSK a few days ago and downloaded the program. Initially
I had ZERO luck with decoding anything with it BUT part of that was NOT a lot
of CMSK signals on the air hi hi
I got on CMSK on the 11th of August and called CQ numerous times on 30mtrs
(10.141) and SOMEONE did
If using anything other than PSK *please* use RSID if your program supports
it. I was watching a guy calling CQ the other day and he was changing mode
so fast I had no chance to keep up.
I suggest PSK if conditions are OK, then Olivia.

Well, that isn't my experience. Regardless of the chip set used, it's the
entire product including the drivers that will determine the performance.
My suspicion is that these devices run at a fixed sampling rate, and that
resampling to the rate requested by the software is carried out by the
I hadn't heard of this software.
I have had two of these one pound USB eBay sound devices. One was so poor you
could see the noise it generated on the waterfall. I tossed it.
The second one I bought to use for computer audio so I could free up the
on-board sound card for digimodes. After a
I don't think it's the only mode that is sensitive. I've noticed similar
problems with a few stations on Olivia. I'd get a few seconds of perfect copy
and then several more of complete garbage, even if their signal is strong. I'm
sure the problem isn't my end as I've had lengthy Olivia QSOs

Olivia, Domino, and even MFSK16 can both fail to get good copy for the exact
same reason. So CMSK is not alone for sure.
However, it's surprises me that MultiPSK seldom fails to decode an olivia
signal while FLDigi (my fav program) does it much more often. I suspect there
is something that
Hmmm, I heard a real narrow mode on 10.141 today and was fairly sure it might
have been a CMSK8 Beacon. Probably yours. BUT NO LUCK decoding it. I was
playing around with the samplerate and tuning but just no luck. Of course,
maybe it wasn't a beacon hi hi Sure makes it difficult to know

Gary, well it could have been, I was there calling CQ on and off for about
