I added new metadata under schema "local" - "local.project.leader", etc.

I registered them, and edited all the necessary files: Messages.properties,
input-forms.xml, local-types.xml, local.cfg. I connected new metadata to
several collections as described in the documentation.

All metadata field values in DSpace are stored in a database column (see
"text_value" column of "metadatavalue" table). That database column uses the
PostgreSQL "TEXT" data type, which is documented as having a 1GB limit:
