Hello all. We recently had a Trading partner start sending us ISA with a TA1
request. Anyone know of the benefit of a TA1 over a 997? Every once in a blue
moon I will have a TP send a 997 requesting this , and I just ask them to turn
it off. I don't have experience with the TA1, but from my
I wouldn't say that one has a benefit over another -- they report on different
things. A TA1 reports problems with an interchange envelope (ISA/IEA) and a 997
reports problems (or lack of problems) with a functional group and/or
transaction.

In working with X12 for over 20 years I can count on one hand the number
of times I've seen anyone use a TA1. They might have had more value back
in the days of dial-up communications and modems, but with modern data
transmission it is extremely rare to see a bad interchange unless the

I don't know what he considers to be a lot of activity but I am getting 1-2
calls per week from staffing firms based off an old resume still floating out
there. Thankfully, I am not looking for another opportunity right now but if I
were, that would be encouraging.

I agree. I have yet to use the TA1 and I have never needed it. I have been
called regarding documents that were to be sent to me; but when I am unable
to find them, it usually meant they had not yet been released for
transmission.

We recently installed Sterling Integrator and I am looking to learn more
about the administration and mapping on this product. I cannot seem to find
any forums or books out there other than what IBM has provided. Though that
information can be useful I am looking more for some personal
TA1's are used for HIPAA EDI data. I've never seen them used in any other type
of EDI document.
The same is true for ST03, the 999 (instead of the 997), and the repeating
element... but that's a whole other can of worms.
