My K144XV can be controlled from about 2w to 9w. I would hazard a guess that
you may be overdriving and sending something into compression in an attempt to
get more power out.

If you have loaded Beta 4.39 and download W8WWW's neat S Meter Lite software
you can display your S meter info on your computer. Greg does not have
calibration info for the K3 but mine appears to track the meter on the rig
just fine.
Get S-meter lite here:
EasyMine does that with very little drive (20-22w) on 117v mains.

Finished the kit today, about 4-5 hrs time wise, love it so far, great reports,
audio, etc. Everything worked fine except the amp talking back to the K3. It
would follow the band changes from the K3 to the amp, but not the other way,
had to set the menu AUXBUS to ON. (the default is OFF)
Yaesu seems to do each transceiver model a bit differently, so a cable
that will work with one Yaesu, may not work with another, even if the
connector physically fits.
What more can I say than - know the characteristics and pinout of
whatever you are connecting to the KPA500. It can work, but

The FT-897 uses an 8-pin mini-Din for this purpose. I recommend getting a
prewired cable, cutting off one end and attaching a male RCA plug to the

however it does not have all the features of S-meter light.
An external S-meter box that displays these readings would make a great option.
