We currently use the DNS method described in Step7 of the guide,
controller.domain. Is there a preferred method when configuring the
discovery? Should we not use the DNS method?

Agreed. We are currently using it and very pleased thus far. One thing to
note, make sure you provision your guest as recommended when it comes to CPU's.
