the trick from Charles did not help, sniff (-: I did not help me either. But to make this story even more interesting, I did the following: The console mouse did not work from as early as boot time (/dev/mouse no such device). So I made a hardlink "ln /dev/usbmouse /dev/mouse". Rebooted.

One thing on my PS/2 trick that I failed to mention is that when you reboot and unplug the PS/2 mouse then when Linux starts the hadware wizard will ask if you want to remove the PS/2 mouse configuration. Either choose No or Ignore. Just out of curiousity. The system I had the problem on is a AMD
