That is not so Dave. Edge to edge sharpness is not a software issue, it is
a film flatness issue in the scaner, and an area where the curving of the
film in the Flextight helps greatly. Shadow detail
to increase sharpness a lot in PS with other scanners
pictures they are not good as Imacon in sharpness.
Mikael Risedal
I think you have done a good conclusion here. If you go back in

Can anyone explain just why manufacturers seem unable to produce a full
36x24mm CCD sensor.
But they CAN produce it. Philips has had one for about three years or
more... It's purely an expense
with film scanning should do the same.

Then I've done everything I can. The 8000ED is just plain slow
with my
computer. Give Photoshop at least 800Mb of your 1.5
Gb RAAM memory
2. If you are using NikonScan alone allocate 600Mb RAAM memory of your 1.5

scanner in many respects is better than a tested Imacon scanner.
I will test the polaroid scanner this sunday and see if this true.
If it is: congratulation Polaroid.
The software they used together with the scanner was Silverfast.

I have tested 3 different LS4000 (for sharpness. se earlier messages) and
one of them had a terrible sound and noice in the scanner mechanism.
If you have that problem - return the scanner to Nikon.

Silverfast 5.2 try out demo for LS 4000
Check out http://lasersoft-imaging.com/english/
Demo of Silverfast 5.2 and Nikon LS 4000.
Silverfast behaves quick and good together with my LS 4000.
Now we are talking scanning speed compare to the slow NikonScan.

I forgot to mention before that in NikonScan 3 and Siverfast 5 can the user
select the focus spot manually ( move the focus area out against the side
of the film .)
