Hi gang. First I'm a newbie to the Flex 5000 so be gentle for my dumb questions.
I checked the KB and it came back with nothing on my two questions.
1. I see the 5000 PA can operate class A. How does one do this? Is it
controlled with the PowerSDR or is this a hardware mod?
2. Can one insert a

Hi Joe.
Welcome to the club. No questions are dumb except for the ones about having
the software generate more sunspots :-)
As far as your first question, the FLEX-5000 PA has the ability be variably

In the Transmit tab of the Setup form there is an AM carrier level setting.
I haven't tried it yet, but I suspect it will allow you to do DSB with
minimal carrier.

From what I read I would guess it does not have dual processor
support, which means shortly Flex will leave it behind. Am I right?
Anybody install it on an MP machine and can validate that it's
uniprocessor only? Cuz, if it is, it's not going to be very useful.
OTOH, you SHOULD be able
I am working on getting a legal copy of it and as soon as I do, I will load it

I would not pay money to buy this new (or used). However, if you already
own this system, it should run PowerSDR (though it will be close to the
lower end of the spectrum performance-wise).

guess my question is, after reading messages from those in the know my

This is not true for many reasons. There is no hard and fast rule that say a

performance level. All that has been said is

I agree with Cecil. When I first got my 5000A I was running it on a Pentium 4,
single core, non-hyperthreading, 2.8Ghz cpu with 1.5GB of memory in an older HP
Vectra desktop.
It ran beautifully, rarely getting over 15% usage, but I didn't have any other

I believe the only way you can get access to windows fundamentals is to have
a Microsoft volume license which most home users don't have access to.

If you are wanting to play back a file on the air, you must press
either the MOX button on the console first or your PTT, then the Play
