Thanks, Dudley;
I will ask a local ham to bring his dummy load over, and I will TEE them
together. (Good idea!) I am surprised that the tuner will (logically)
NOT attempt to tune, if it is looking at a good enough load. (Oh,
well...)
You had mentioned that your Flex-3000 does not TUNE

Mike,
I have seen the very short refuse to tune cycle on my inverted V with my new
3K as well...I push tune and almost instantly, without going into a cycle I
get a red light. My 746 Pro and LDG tuner would at least go through the
cycle to try and find a match.

The SVN 2942 solved a bug in SDR-1000, not remembering AGC-T or Preamp
settings by band.
But the bug #2118 remains live and while the Preamp setting is writen in
the Database, it is not restored on power up.
It happens at least in SDR1000 both in the test brach SVN 2950 and in
the official

Actually I rough tune for max noise on the ALC meter, then fine tune
for min SWR by 1 transmissions.

OK.
The you will not initially use the ATU. Tune like you normally do for max
signal, then using the TUN button to generate a 10 watt carrier to tune to
lowest SWR. Then you can use the ATU to extra fine tune the antenna.

Greetings,
Following the earlier discussions, I gave mine a try. Previously I had
been using an external auto-tuner.
I tried it with:
High quality 50ohm load (M/A COM, good to several Gigs). When I hit
the ATU button I hear the relays click for a brief time (1 sec), and
the ATU button

I can routinely tune the

funny result
If there is a lightning/thunder that I can hear,
It will knock out the PWSDR to the extant that it's a slowly squiggilng line in
the panadaptor.
No audio...
Doing a Stop/Start recycles and back in business.
None of the strikes are in 'close' proximity.
never
forgot to say the overload of PWSDR is a good 1 count before I hear the thunder.
with no windows in this closet, can't see the lightning

Dudley, Tim and Jim;
I believe that we can finally put this issue to rest. It is not clearly
mentioned in the manual, but it appears that the Flex-3000 has an
apparent HARD CEILING on the defined 3:1 VSWR that it will accept.
-The puzzler to me was the mention of the unit's ANTENNA
Mike,

Mike,
Don't give up, if the range can be expanded, Eric will do it... This
is the great feature of the real SDRs, if there are changes that are
needed or can be added, then a SW change of the program and then a new
upgraded radio.
