[Flexradio] Flex-1500 spurious when using external reference

2011-04-12 Thread Kjeld Bülow Thomsen
I’m using my Flex-1500 with transverters on 1,3 – 24 GHz. The radio and most of the transverters are locked to a 10 MHz GPS-disciplined oscillator. When working weak signals there are only very few spurious frequencies. During the last weeks there has been tropo conditions with signals in the 59

Check your preamp settings. I found that I need to set it to 0 or have the attenuator on. The gain of the transverter would push it over the edge. This is especially true if you adjusted the 1500 to compensate for the gain of the transverter. Tom WB8COX Tom -Original Message- From:

[Flexradio] External Sources

2011-04-12 Thread Doug Millar
Hi Just a comment about external sources: not all are created equal. Be sure you check them for spectral purity. Often we get them surplus because they do not meet specs. In the Qualcomm boards there is a two pole 10mhz crystal filter following what seems to be a good TCXO. It turns out

[Flexradio] Mic gain with the F1500

2011-04-12 Thread Alfred Green
I'm using the Yaesu MH-31. Even with the mic gain set at zero I still see the occasional ALC peak a little over 0dB. Monitoring on the F3K it sounds pretty thin. and a setting of 15 seems optimal with no added compression. I thought I had read that the gain should be set to give a bit less

Lower the mic input gain using the MIXER so that you have some headroom with the front panel MIC gain control. -Tim -Original Message- From: flexradio-boun...@flex-radio.biz [mailto:flexradio-boun...@flex-radio.biz] On Behalf Of Alfred Green Sent: Tuesday, April 12, 2011 4:52 PM To:

Richard, Thanks for your tip. AUTORUNS is a fantastic tool for this sort of thing. As it turns out, btwampfl; Broadcom Bluetooth USB AMP Filter for Windows Vista, was the culprit. Now, I don't understand why this driver would cause a problem, but as long as it is disabled, PowerSDR is happy.

Kjeld: Do you have access to another 10 MHz reference that could be substituted and used to compare? It does not have to be high accuracy for the comparison test. I suspect a 10 kHz switching power supply or some other 10 kHz source associated with your GPSDO as causing the problem. You might
