Virtual Audio Cables is the best method for 5000 audio I/O
EasyPal works very nicely.

A couple of things to do that might make it simpler to troubleshoot:
1. From the Windows 7 desktop, click the menu icon in the lower left
corner and then in the Search programs and files box type the word:
environment
2. From the short list that shows up, click on: edit system
