[Flexradio] Do I need a pre-amp

Hi to the group this is not quite flex but... on 6metres with my 5ka I get about 8 db drop from general noise on nfm from my aerial, to when the aerial input is disconnected. Does this mean a shack preamp won't help much ? I'm already running hardline to the aerial so I'm out of options
