You want the Heil proset with the Yaesu adapter (it is Yellow). Of
course, there are many other choices, but Bob Heil has it pretty well
figured out

Same question. I have a FLEX-5000A and the FLEX-5000 Headset Microphone
cable from Flex-Radio. Which Heil ProSet style headset should I buy? The
choices seem to be:
* ProSet with HC-5 element;
* ProSet with HC-4 element;
* ProSet with iC
Sheldon,
I have used the Proset Plus w/HC-4 HC-5 elements since my SDR-1000 days.
Here are my thoughts on the subject.
The iC element is a condenser microphone element that requires a bias
voltage to operate. While the FLEX-3000/FLEX-5000 support that, under the
theory that simpler is better,
Is it really possible to make an hc4 sound like an hc5? The hc4 has a
low end roll-off at 600hz while the hc5 rolls off at 300hz. I don't
think the eq can emphasize something that's not there however maybe it
is possible to attenuate the low end of the hc5 to get an hc4 like
sound.

Larry,
You are probably correct. I forgot about the low-end roll-off. In that
case the advice would be to get the HC-5 make it sound like an HC-4 if you
need to.

Tim,
Ah, the differences between the contester/DX'er the rag-chewer. A 300Hz
cut-off is fine by me. I don't want the extra lows wasting power that can
be better used to add punchhi..hi.
Just goes to show that the Flex is a radio for ALL types of operators!

Dave,
You say that the Yamaha CM500 headset is very comfortable. Do you wear
glasses? I do after a few hours in a contest, my Heil Proset Plus headset
starts to hurt my ears due to my glasses.
