While we are on the subject of manual confusion (as opposed to automatic
confusion), there is a little something that might not be very intuitive
to new users (and some of us OTs too).
Even though the FLEX-3000 Owner's Manual indicates
I just ordered my new F5K. Will it come with a printed manual or do I need
to print out the one from the web site. I like paper manuals to look
through. Old fashioned I guess.

The FLEX-5000 does not come with a printed manual, but a PDF file is
provided on the CD that comes with the radio. However, you can order a
professionally-printed manual from Peter Markavage, WA2CWA.
The PDF file is the interactive-type. That is, you can click on an item in
the table of

I understand the advantage of the pdf format. I just wanted something I can
leaf through on the desk as I learn how to get the radio going the first
time. After that I'll be content with the paperless version.

The current Flex 5000 operating manual, which is what's on the Flex web
site, is V1.14.0, which was announced on 9/9/08. Release Notes are posted
on the web site for the latest PowerSDR however, but the operating manual
is still V1.14.0.
