The man page says to use 'wipe -Kq -l 1440k /dev/fd0'.
The 'K' here should be 'k'.
I've reported this to the upstream maintainer.

(incidentally, I don't know if this is my misunderstanding or not but when
I tried the above with a 'k', 'wipe -kq -l 1440k /dev/fd/0', I got the
response 'error: character 'k' is illegal in length description "k"')
