That should be a really easy fix to backport to stretch, jessie and wheezy.

both, grokevt 0.5.0 was released 6 years ago, its packaging were blocked
due to a dependency problem that was fixed by Giovani some time ago on the
stretch development cycle and i went ahead and packaged 0.5.0. The problem
is that i've got no response from the team's list regarding the sponsorship
and didn't asked directly to someone that could have time to upload it in
time for stretch. Fortunately i can backport this release as soon as it

Hi Thorsten,

Initially, thanks for your review.

Sorry for my mistake. Before upload the package in the first time I
did a check in a clean environment but I could have done a double
check. In a fresh clean Sid, I think that the package was installed
because the 'Provides:' field in some other packages. I also used
'dpkg -i package; apt-get install -f'. So, the 'apt-get install -f'
solved the issues, as not present packages. So, all existent
dependencies was installed but not forensics-extra. I was a foll, my
apologizes. Now, I did a Bash script to check each package.

Well, I reuploaded the package with the following changes:

- ascii2uni changed to uni2ascii
- exiftool changed to libimage-exiftool-perl
- pdfinfo changed to poppler-utils
- unrar (vitual) removed. unrar-free already exists. (oh my God!)
- nikto (non-free) removed.

Also:

- dislocker: now in forensics-all, already in Debian. Removed from
forensics-extra.

I also updated the date in debian/changelog . No more changes.

I hope that is all rigth now.

Thanks again.

Eriberto

Hi Brian,

Well, it was forked from an old foremost version, and the current foremost
version (at least the config-reading part) was still quite similar to the
scalpel 1.60. Some code forensics would help, like importing in a git tree
foremost 0.69 and the various scalpel versions we can find until 2.0.
"git blame -w -C -C" will be able to help to get an idea of lines that
only changed by reindent (although some more work with code normalization
would be required for more accurate numbers, as the line-wrapping conventions
have been changed).

Re: Re: Retirement of rifiuti

2016-07-31 Thread waldeck
Hi Eriberto,

thanks for your feedback!

>I don't know if rifiuti can be removed now. Is rifiuti2 a full and
> mature repacement for rifiuti? Can someone say about it?

Comparing the man pages
https://manpages.debian.org/cgi-bin/man.cgi?query=rifiuti=0=0=Debian+unstable+sid=html=en
https://manpages.debian.org/cgi-bin/man.cgi?query=rifiuti2=0=0=Debian+unstable+sid=html=en
tells me that rifiuti has only one command line option which is also present in
rifiuti2.

Popcon says that both packages have little bit over 100 users (which allow the
participation in popcon):
https://qa.debian.org/popcon.php?package=rifiuti
https://qa.debian.org/popcon.php?package=rifiuti2

The most efficient way would be to notify the existing rifiuti users (e.g. thru
a update of the package)
about the existence of rifiuti2 and to ask them to retest their use cases with
rifiuti2.
Provide also concise deadline (like 2016-12-31).
In the case that there are not complaints or severe bugreports rifiuti will be
retired.

Thanks!

Re: Forensics metapackage

2015-11-13 Thread Eriberto
Hi,

My suggestions:

1. forensics-kit, forensics-all or similar.

2. Native package to avoid to maintain the code as upstream outside of Debian.

3. Don't add libraries and other packages that are dependencies.

4. Use a script to auto create a debian/control.NEW. You can fish
information from QA page.

5. In long description, quote the word 'forensics' and all names of
the all packages to be installed.

This is a very easy package, I think.

Thanks for your work.

Eriberto

I personally have no objections against such a package.

If all our packages are tagged properly something like:

  aptitude search '?tag(admin::forensics)'

should also provide a nice list of available Forensics
packages in a given Debian release, though a metapackage is more
user friendly for sure.

Jey :)

 These are the affected packages.

Once the packages have hit testing, I would also like to provide jessie

Re: Business Proposal

2015-04-21 Thread Mr.Addim Williams
Dear Sir,

My name is Addim Williams from Ghana in West Africa. My father was a gold
miner in the mining village of Ghana Tarkwa. Before his death last year, he
kept 310 kilos of gold Bars and Dusts in stock. As the first Son of my father,
I took in charge of my father’s business. I want to market the gold
internationally and use the money carefully to upgrade our mining equipments.

My vision is to continue in the mining industry established by my father. My
father acquired vast mining concession before his death, but some of the mining
equipments in the field are old and outdated. My mission is to sell the
available gold and use part of the money to purchase modern mining equipment to
upgrade and enhance the collection of more gold.

To achieve this, I need an honest foreign partner who will help me to market
the gold internationally so that I will use part of the money to purchase the
equipments. I will be glad if such partner would like to go into partnership
with me. Both of us can establish a Joint Venture Company and work on
percentage level in the mining business.

If you are interested in this offer, please do let me know. I will send you all
the necessary details you need to know about me and the gold. I am looking
forward towards hearing from you.

Best Regards
Addim Williams.

It is affected by these RC bugs:
   770242: rkhunter: upgrade/post-install errors

I've just commented on that bug, it looks fairly simple to fix.

Great, thanks.

The recent 3 uploads of rkhunter have been done by Francois Marier
(so Cc-ing) him, though all those changes are NOT yet integrated in
our Git repository AFAICT and I don't see the according NMU patches
neither. So those recent changes should get integrated into Git as well.

I couldn't push to the repo because I don't have write access to it, but I
did do these changes in a local repo.

Great, any chance that you're willing to help us out in maintaining
rkhunter? If so it would be great if you could just join our
forencis group at https://alioth.debian.org/projects/forensics/ -
then as soon as I (or someone else with admin permissions) grants
you access to the group you should have write permissions on our git
repository too.

The NMU patches are on the BTS:

   https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=765912

Ah, thx!

Very much appreciated!

Hi Mika and all!

I am acting as new co-maintainer and team upload in some packages not
maintained since 2011 or before. I intend to adopt some packages that
was maintained by Julien and Christophe Monniez. But rkhunter is not
in my current plans. But, if needed, I can try help.

If someone else wants to take a look and review my patch (attached to the

Sure, I can help with rkhunter, but I'm not really looking to maintain a lot
more packages :) So if that's alright with you, I'll stay off of the mailing
list and just subscribe to the rkhunter package.

Re: Suggestion: move autopsy maintenance to Debian Forensics team

2014-03-16 Thread Eriberto
Hi!

I looked over the new autopsy 3 (currently in 3.0.9 version)[1]. The
upstream says[2]:

Although Autopsy is designed to be cross-platform (Windows, Linux,
MacOSX), the current version is fully functional and fully tested only
on Windows.
We have run it on XP, Vista, and Windows 7 with no problems.

My first impression is that is a pure Windows based program. The
upstream stuffed several third-party softwares in his tarball, doing
79 MB. An example:

$ ls thirdparty
ant-contrib crt gstreamer jdiff jfxrt junit libscalpel_jni
mactime pasco2 sigar

I think that the upstream linked autopsy with some specific versions
of the other programs. Exemple:

$ ls thirdparty/ant-contrib/1.0b3/lib
bcel-5.1.jar commons-httpclient-3.0.1.jar commons-logging-1.0.4.jar
ivy-1.3.1.jar

As I talked before, I will analyse all in two or three weeks. But I
think that this is a Windows only code...

Good night!

Cheers,

Eriberto

Hy Fabian,

Thanks a lot for your message. I contacted Lorenzo (current autopsy
maintainer) in february and I will evaluate the autopsy, in two or
three weeks.
The intent is put autopsy under Forensics Team and Lorenzo agrees. The
main problem is the new autopsy versions were tested by the upstream
over Windows only. So, I need to check it in Debian.

I will send news soon. Have a nice day!

Eriberto
