I´m having the same problem. My machine have 2GB of ram and 1 one
processor, connected to a PowerVault 220 (Storage) and a PowerVault 110T
(LTO 2 Tape Drive).

Can you do anything else that hits the machine with high disk I/O?
If this an SMP enabled kernel? If so does the same thing occur if you use a
non-smp enabled kernel?

Update all the firmware in both dells. Then run the dell diagnostics to
see if ANYTHING shows up as a problem.
