If install-minimal doesn't include amixer then alsamixer would have to be
used if all sound was muted. It may be easier to do the alternate install
in a mount point on the system.

I am wondering if running alsamixer then razing the volume to your liking would
work. I had to do this on my installed system.

Is it any easier to boot gentoo and catch the boot: prompt using a braille
display for a screen reader than it is using speech? That could be all of
my problem on this end, no braille display yet.
