Unless you’re up for learning SQL, there is an easier path if all you want are
pretty reports.
You can copy/paste reports to a spreadsheet and manipulate from there.
You can get part of the way to a ‘dashboard’ with the multi-column report. Look
into it.

the Gnucash features, I miss the MS Money colorful reports (and yes a

The inability to create the backup file tends to suggest that you may have
permission issues to the location the datafile is stored in. The .LCK file
is not an issue of itself. You can open the folder and delete the .LCK file

If the payments is made before the bill is posted it is likely that the
payment has not become associated with the bill so that GNuCash can
recognize that it has been paid.

deductible input VAT thereof.

This is my second request; no response to my first one.
I cannot get Gnucash 3.5 to install on Windows 10. The dtaus.xml file is
suspended during the installation process and the whole installation hangs
up. Gnucash 3.5 has removed the earlier version, so I can't go back to
that. Right
On the "Due Bills Reminder" that pops up whenever I start GnuCash, what
does the column heading "CN?" mean?

current iteration. This was not thought of during the design.
A short workable answer is to record this asset purchase as an expense, and
immediately create an expense->asset transaction which will satisfy your
VAT

imported the entire file in one pass. I went back to quicken numerous times to
clean up the exported data, but eventually got an import that was clean enough.
