I have started using GC recently because I want to have a better control of
types my expenses.
In a particular case, I would like to assign a simple payment to two
different expense categories (both 100%, not splitting the payment).
For example:
During the vacation I spend 50$ on gasoline.

Have GnuCash installed on my laptop running Linux Mint. Used synaptic to
install Perl module - Finance::Quote 1.47-1 at
usr/share/doc/libfinance-quote-perl. "About" Pop-up from GnuCash Help &
Security Editor showing it is not installed. Have same working fine on my
desktop running Windows10.

Well, never mind - I used a spreadsheet after exporting the account to
csv, A lot of sorting then deleting rows, extracting the day of the
month from the date and then function sumif with a criterion range of
1-31. But having that in a report instead of day of the week would
still be nice.
This is definitely small scale.
I want to take this as a learning opportunity and figure out a more
structured solution that can be scaled up and applied to other accounting
problems in the future.

If the extent of the transactions is small, a separate spreadsheet might
suffice, but I imagine it wouldn't scale much, if at all.
As I have reached the point in my life where I try not to focus on small
balance differences between friends, I might not be the one to advise you here.

However, we have to keep track of the exact CAD amounts.
How should we do that? In a separate spreadsheet?
At the end, we have to account for the exchange gain/(loss).
If he puts in 5,000 CAD (1,000,000 HUF @ 200HUF/CAD), he wants 5000CAD
If it were me, I'd simply record everything in HUF, unless one of the
aforementioned accounts is actually denominated in CAD.

USD, and I really must track them in my books as units of the stock. If I have
to deal with it being show up in "Assets" section of the balance sheet as a
negative asset instead of under "liabilities" as a positive
