Interesting.
Here's the original announcement:
"Having finally beaten WebKitGtk on Windows into submission so that it
runs JavaScript without crashing, at least in my not very extensive
tests, I've built a new Windows gnucash-5.5-1.setup.exe and uploaded it
to the usual places.
The sea-256
I got it from here:
https://sourceforge.net/projects/gnucash/files/gnucash%20%28stable%29/5.5/gnucash-5.5-1.setup.exe/download
After being redirected from here:
https://gnucash.org/
There's a link for the Windows version in the "Download GnuCash 5.5"
panel at the top of the page.

I did not receive the initial announcement unless it was the one posted to
the dev thread, I did not see if it was posted to the nightly builds
location or to the main release location.
Gmail does not show me the announcement that this thread follows.

I thought John made that pretty clear in the initial post of this thread.

I'm pretty sure that release was to fix a Windows-specific issue.
Pre-compiled Linux versions are available from various distributions.
Otherwise, a flatpak is also available if you need something more recent
than your distro's repo.

There are too many Linux variants to provide a pre-compiled version
outside of the standard package distribution channels.
I just did a pull to get v5.5-87 and am compiling it on my Ubuntu 23.10
box as I type this response. I can share my script if you want to try
building it on your box.
