I could be vastly off base here, but, I think that message about
“selecting...instead” is because the package build info is specifying a generic
name but the actual packages have specific version names as part of the file
name. There is a way to fix this. (still specify the version but the

I successfully used the Disco .deb files to install GnuCash-3.5 into Debian
Testing (Buster) using the instructions in Stephen's first post above:
> sudo apt remove gnucash gnucash-common python3-gnucash
> sudo apt autoremove
> sudo apt install ./*3.5*.deb

Good Morning
Short report:
It's now all working and, for those who have been following a different
thread to do with European share prices not appearing in the Price
Editor window, European share prices are now appearing in the Price
Editor window - John (Ralls) was right, the problem is
If you select and download all three files in one go then Dropbox zips
them up. If you download them one at a time it keeps them as
individual files and saves the effort of unzipping them.

Thanks for taking the time to respond.
It's possible/probable that I used the wrong files. In my Download
folder I had a directory gnucash_3.5 and a zipped file (which, to be
honest I didn't notice until Colin's note prompted a careful looking) I
never use the underscore
Did you make sure there were no other similar files already in the
folder you downloaded to and that you downloaded the correct files?

Eric, looks like the old version didn't cleanup properly.
Here's an alternative installation method...it's what I used to install
3.5 this morning.
Follow the instructions to remove version 3.4, paying attention to the
instruction to run
sudo apt autoremove
after removing the three main
