I have not been able to upgrade gnucash for a while now. Will there be a usable gnucash in the next debian release? If not, why not? I still use this version on debian stretch/testing/frozen, soon to be the new released debian stable: sudo apt-get purge gnucash-docs gnucash-common gnucash

Hi Morris, On Linux Mint 18.2 the help files are located in /usr/share/docs/gnucash-docs. The display of the tutorial guide and manual by Gnucash uses the gnome Yelp help browser. It may be this is not installed in the raspberryPi Linux version.
