How are you searching? Windows Vista and more modern editions include advanced search operators. Open a file manager window and navigate to the C:\ drive. (or the root of whatever drive you think the file is on) In the search bar type: ext:.gnucash This will give you all files on that drive

Yes, I was opening the back-up and that is what caused the problem. The list I thought is only shortcuts so the file must still be there somewhere. I had not moved it from its default location where it was as originally saved but I don't know where that is. Get Outlook for

A point that's been glossed over: if you've only created two Gnucash files, why has the first one dropped off the previous files list? I think that the default for that menu is four. That means your first file should still be there. Or have you been opening other files as well (like maybe

Thanks David. I was on v31, Windows 10. I have reinstalled v2.6 and performed the reconciliation without issues. I've little experience with Linux but when I get some time I'll install Linus Mint and gnucash 3.1 to see how I like it. BTW I also noticed in v3.1 that after unsuccessfully checking
