I haven't had any problem using it on Linux (through WSL) and Windows version of GNUCash . I actually have lower version of GNUCash on my Ubuntu (v3.11) then Windows (v4.2) which allows me to work between two without any issues. Of course I use XML as the target format for saving the file data.

I can confirm that on Windows 10 using GNC 4.10 exiting via 'X' regardless you are prompted to save the file or not does not clear the lock file on my kit. I do not have any unusual use of my kit so I am left to guess something with GNC is causing it . --

4.11 is the current official release so it won't hurt to go to that version instead of 4.8. I use compressed XML version of file running on Windows 11 and frankly speaking I never had to revert back to previous version of data file for being corrupt. This history goes back to since 3.x version
