TRI Continental Film Festival - Dona Paula, Goa, Sep 28 - Oct 2, 2007 http://www.moviesgoa.org/tricontinental/tricon.htm Online Media Partner: http://www.goanet.org ------------------------------------------------------------------------ XAVIERS NEWS & FEATURES E-SERVICE (XNFES) Theatre Workshop at Xaviers Theatre is a collaborative activity capable of harnessing the creative energy latent in every young person. It must be acknowledged as an integral part of undergraduate education today said Mr. Apurva Kulkarni, a multifaceted artist from Chicalim at the two day theatre workshop organized by St. Xavier's College for its students recently. As a resource person for the workshop, he introduced the participants to the broad concept of theatre as education rather than as mere performance or passive entertainment. Touching upon the numerous facets of theatre from scripting to stage and set design, to costume and make-up, to choreography, performance and publicity, Mr. Kulkarni threw open whole new vistas of creativity and experience waiting to be discovered within the vast space of the stage. The workshop began with the screening of a documentary titled Quidam, a performance by the Franco-Canadian group called Circle de Soleil (Circus of the Sun). It was a spectacular visual kaleidoscope of movement, music, mime and muscle power, synthesized to produce an experience of pure magic. Besides holding the audience absolutely spell-bound during the film and later generating a lively discussion, it helped to illustrate Apurvas notion of theatre as a hugely collaborative and creative art demanding discipline and commitment from all those involved. In theatre, there is place for everyone on, off and back stage believes Apurva who has himself dabbled in various forms of art. The participants were encouraged to air their views on theatre and discover their specific areas of interest in the field. Their creative energy came shining through, in an interesting exercise of interpreting pieces of music which were later translated into semi-dramatic scripts. The two-day event was coordinated by Mrs. Alice DCruz, Convenor of Theatre Club along with Nieta Bruto de Costa, Adrij Vas, Rene Pinto and Sapphira Pereira, the office bearers of the Xaviers Theatre Club. -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
