Inaugural of the New Academic Year 2011-2012
At St. Xaviers
The Archbishop-Patriarch, Filipe Neri Ferrao,
inaugurated and blessed the new Academic Year
2011-2012 at St. Xaviers College, Mapusa, on
25th June, 2011, with the Eucharistic Celebration
on the theme Education for Sustaining Nature, A
Manifestation of Gods Glory, drawn from the
Pastoral Letter entitled, Covenant between Human
Beings and Creation, Divine Loves Manifestation.
The Archbishop complimented Staff and Students
for their dedication and achievements and
exhorted to adopt a 3Hs formula, namely to be
humble, honest and helpful to others in order to
achieve success in ones life. Further, he
appealed to the youngsters to evolve as men and
women of character, competence, conscience, compassion and commitment.
The Principal, Dr. (Fr.) Walter de Sa extended a
cordial welcome to the large gathering of staff
and students, and observed that an educational
institution needs to be the light of the world
and the salt of the earth, thus, making education
a transformative process, i.e., changing human
persons, and through them, Society and its
structures. This is the core mission of education, he added.
The Archbishop also felicitated Dr. (Major) Sudha
Chari and Prof. Satish Bute for their long
tenure as teachers of Philosophy and Konkani
respectively, at St. Xaviers and appreciated
their contribution towards the growth of both the Departments.
Students then put up a variety cultural programme
including an instrumental flute solo, Sonata
No.II by Bach, rendered by Ms. Divya Pinto.
The annual College magazine, HALCYON 2010-2011
was also released at the hands of the Archbishop
Patriarch. Ms. Ninoshka Pinto proposed the
vote of thanks while Ms. Fiona Soares and Cheryl
Mendonca compered the programme.
