This is a bug in the Shell tool, it will be fixed in the next release.
A workaround is to use block comments (/* */) instead of line
comments.
I think H2 is more suitable than Derby for Sun's JDK too.
At the time Sun chose Derby, H2 didn't exist yet. Now has IBM reduced
their commitment
