Just a quick note that HNCH has recorded 352 Sharp-shinned Hawks over the last
two day (that is a two-day record with the total of 237 on 10/20 being a
one-day record. They went by yesterday line up in assembly-line style (up to
ten in a row). We have been wondering where they all were this

Goshawk between Sandpiper Beach and Oak Grove at Saylorville Reservoir.

Late yesterday, we had a visit from what we think is a first-year fall
female Orange-crowned Warbler. I sat with all our warbler identification
books checking and rechecking. Corrections are welcome. We put her as
today's entry on our blog, if you would care to look.

I was gone for the last two weeks so I haven't been up to date on the birds
around here. There were reports of SHORT-EARED OWLS while I was gone, so
there are a few around. From past experience it seems like the first

This morning as I walked to the truck in my driveway, I heard sharp
little chip sounds all over the place. I looked to the trees in my front
yard and they were absolutely dripping with Yellow-rumped Warblers. I
estimated 40 to 50 just in my front yard alone..then I looked down the

field at 120th Ave. and 270th St., Kossuth Co. Flushed a flock of 70
Smith's Longspurs twice and had a flyover flock of 60 Laps. Also present
