Mark, I think it is a short billed Western, but I like to see a longer
slightly drooped bill when I call a Western. Ray Cummins/Ankeny

Sorry for the delay in posting but I was able to do a bit of birding on
Tuesday at East Twin Lake in Hancock County. Best birds from my time out
were about two dozen Yellow-headed Blackbirds calling and chasing, both
Marsh Wrens (FOY) and Soras in abundance, and good looks at 4 Ruddy Ducks
Just relocated Mark Brown's possible a Western Sandpiper on the south side of
the the sand peninsula on the northeast side of Sand Lake (Terry Trueblood). I
am getting additional photos. Everything is spot on Western Sandpiper besides
the bill length.

Hi Birders,
Pammel Woods was flooded with migrants this afternoon. In just an hour I
had 15 species of warblers and several FOYs. The highlight was a gorgeous
male Golden-winged Warbler (FOY). Other observations are listed below.
Least Flycatcher - 4
Great Crested Flycatcher - 1 (FOY)

Early this AM, an adult Mississippi Kite floated across and landed in
the dead Vantage Tree at the end of my block. I'm really gonna miss
that bird-lure in a year or so when they finally take it down! Also, a
Red-necked Grebe on a small gravel pit on the south side of Algona
probably didn't

I had a calling Black-billed Cuckoo 2 miles west of the Croton/Shimek
parking lot and 1 mile north on 140th Ave. It sat in a tree adjacent to the
road
and continued to be very vocal.

Around 3:30PM today I had an incredible look at a Cerulean Warbler at YMCA
Woods in Ames. It was a very vocal male that was making himself very easy
to find. At one point he flew within 10 feet of my head, then landed on a
branch only 20 feet away, giving me a long, close, stunning look!

There were 10 species of warblers this a.m. in Parker's Woods, including
four Golden-winged males and one female. There was a throng of thrushes,
looked to be all Swainson's. There were kinglets, flycatchers and vireos.

Being a busty student at UW-Madison, I have not had much time to bird until
now.
I went birding on a walking and bike path a minute walk from my dorm today
for about an hour. I totaled 15 warbler species, with yellow warbler being
a very notable miss for the excursion.

I had several suggestions for the birds at Squaw Creek. The most likely
seems to be Solitary Sandpipers. Here are a couple of the posts giving

While delivering groceries today I had a foy Tennessee Warbler singing
from a maple tree in Ida Grove. The best bird at Moorehead Park in Ida
County was an early Yellow-belied Flycatcher.

Birding was good at Bacon Creek late today. Eight species of warblers
including a male Golden-Winged which was a lifer for me! 40+ Myrtle's
Warblers seen. Also, twelve FOY's. Highlights are attached. A lot has
moved in this week! It's looking promising for Birdathon unless rain
dampens the action!
Today, I encountered an Ad. Mississippi
Kite near the Aldo Leopold Wetlands
Complex along Timber Road. I got great
looks at it as it gracefully soared over
some prairie habitat headed southbound,
and out of sight, but it may still be in
the area. This is along the Wapsie River
