Good afternoon, Everyone,
I would appreciate some suggestions or practices that people out there
have implemented regarding DNS and ISP backups. Feel free to email me

Right before Christmas, our ISP went out of business without telling
anyone.
Yes I've been running Scott's AV and Junkmail Pro. I have never noticed a

Sharyn,
Just my .02 but I would recommend having at least one dominant ISP (such
as ATT or Sprint.) And another ISP for redundancy. I would require that
both ISP's implement BGP on their router, and also configure it on my
router. Of course, you do have to purchase an AS number from ARIN's.
I host my own primary nameserver here. My question then, is, how is the
best way to handle a quick tranfer of DNS?
There shouldn't be any need to.

All you have to do is this, have 2 nameservers ns1, ns2. ns1 should be

I would say that's a good practice when you know in advance a change is coming. We had

I might add that many folks might be willing to share backup DNS servers

Sharyn,
George's recommendation is the technologically easiest to implement. But to

The advantage of using BGP is that you can route ALL of your IP blocks over

Mike,
As an additional note. I looked at BGP and found that the cost would be
substantially higher and, as you mentioned, much more challenging

The Link Proof Lite is a poor man's BGP so to speak and has the advantages
