Yes, you can. In fact, I have running such a setup. Since you are using aliases then to forward the messages, you would use outbound rules on IMail (inbound rules only apply to real user accounts) doing the tidy-up job, like for example moving detected spam mails to a specific mailbox (I forward them to a Exchange Public Folder, so that the users can check themselves whether an important time-critical mail has been falsely detected as spam).

Hi,

 

If I setup Imail 8.0x or 8.1 act as a gateway will email go through spam filters?  I have an exchange 2000 box of coarse doesn’t have any anti-spam technology. J   I was thinking that if the mail could go through my imail server at least some of the spam would get blocked.  I have inbound rules setup to move spam messages to a mailbox for safety sake how do those apply?
